It gets pretty easy here at Fortlive.com to predict the next big thing in 817 local music. Having hand-typed almost every concert in the city since January 2012, you can easily tell the bands that are spreading their tunes across the Fort far and wide and gaining the confidence of local booking agents and thus, bigger crowds.
The most tell-tell sign of finding out what bands are in it to win it, is to just listen to their music.
After listening to the debut album from Panic Volcanic, I am here to proclaim these cats frontrunners along with fellow buzz banders Ice Eater as the bands to watch in 2013. With a dynamicsm exhibited in musicians twice their age, these young rockers are creating old fashioned Rock n Roll that burns your brain with fuzz and distortion to all-time highs.
First, let me be the first to say it: Ansley Dougherty is an 817 treasure. Her voice echos Robert Plant, and even shadows a current day Jack White. The Destroyer, as she is known amongst her friends, her songs are perfectly crafted into a vicious, thunderous arrangement from Drummer Chris Cole and bassist and band co-writer Zach Tucker.
With records like this, bands get signed to major label deals. Panic Volcanic is that good.
Check the new disc out at http://panicvolcanic.bandcamp.com/ and go join them for their CD Release Party this Saturday night at the new Queen City Music Hall. Performing with fellow label mates, The Frisky Disco, Animal Spirit, and the multi-talented Grant Bloom opening the show up at 9pm. This is gonna be a show for the record books as they release a CD that will go down as one of 2013's best in North Texas.
